Yesterday, January 25, we did get to go Black Water Rafting.
So… black water rafting was a go, and it was AMAZING. I had so much fun! The adventure started with us getting into wet suits. We had wet socks, wet overalls, and a wet jacket to complete our “wet suit”. After we had our suits on we put our helmets on and we were ready to begin! We started by practicing jumps. We were told that when there are waterfalls in the cave we have to take our tube, put it around our backside and jump backwards off the waterfall. After each person did a practice jump we were ready to head to the caves.
When we got to the caves I was so nervous. We entered in through a small entrance, and unlike my predictions, we walked though it, holding our tubes at our sides. We walked for a short distance and then halted to gain insight on what type of cave we were in and safety precautions. Our headlamps didn’t give off much light; so it was tricky walking through the cave, water rushing all around your legs. Finally it was time to start rafting. Sitting in our tubes cruising through the cave was so awesome! The ceiling was lined with “glow worms” which are actually maggots. They looked like stars on the roof of the cave. There were a couple spots in the cave where we turned our lights off, which really made the maggots glow.
Rafting in the dark cave definitely tested me, but I am also ready for more of a challenge. Check out the video I put together of the pictures that were taken while we were rafting!
The video must not work on my phone!! I'll have to look at it tomorrow morning! But black water rafting sounds like a blast!!!!
