Tonight is our last night in Wellington, and our last night on the north island of New Zealand. We went to a lookout tonight, and it was one of the most amazing sights I have ever seen. I took lots of pictures, so I will be sure to post them ASAP. As for our stay in Wellington…. I really enjoyed it. Staying at the hostel is really neat; people from all over the world are here. It is great to interact and meet people from all different countries. It is fun to just sit and listen to the accents and languages being spoken.
While in Wellington I did not get to visit any schools, but I did get to visit Te Papa, which is the museum of New Zealand. It is HUGE! There are six floors, and it is just crazy! It is a building that anyone could get lost in! (I think it would be great for hide-and-seek or tag!!!). There were animals, history of New Zealand, Maori information, etc. It was very interesting to see that a lot of the “historical” artifacts they had were from the 1900’s. New Zealand is the newest country in the world; it is just odd to realize that their history does not date back as far as ours does in the USA. Besides the museum there was lots to do, one of the most popular amongst the group was to shop! I did not partake in any shopping, but everyone else seemed to find something to buy almost each day!
I spent one of my days here at the beach that was only a 5-minute walk from our hostel. It was just gorgeous! Sitting there I wished I could just sit in that moment forever!
Wellington has been great, lots to do, lots of people, and lots of excitement. We were talking, as a group tonight and apparently skydiving is only a few days away… The thought of it is really making me nervous. I want to do it, but I am very scared to. I have a lot of “what-ifs” running through my head, but I know I will do it! I am hoping that I just get a huge boost of courage the day we do that… I guess we will see.
I think we also have white water kayaking in the near future, which is great, except I talked to the guide of our raft while we were white water rafting and he said that white water kayaking was much harder than rafting… I am sure I will flip over! I guess that is a chance I will just have to take!
Every time we leave a town I just get a bit nervous and anxious I think. It is like we finally settle into a place and I get to feel comfortable in my surroundings and we’re off again. However, I love the uncertainty it provides and the curiosity that lingers with it. I love the unknown, it has been full of excitement so far, and I am looking forward to more!
Well I should probably be sleeping soon, it is currently 11:12pm here, and we are driving out of the hostel by 7am. We have to get on the ferry to go to the south island. I guess it is a three-hour ferry ride, and with the winds that we have, I am a bit nervous about getting seasick. Sleep would probably be good! J I hope everyone is doing fabulous and I love and miss you all!
