Heading to NZ!

Minnesota Time/Date:  12:22pm, January 23, 2011.
New Zealand Time/Date:  6:22am January 24, 2011.
Approximately 12 hours on a plane, and I have NO clue what time it is for me right now.  We are currently 40,000 feet in the air, flying at a ground speed of over 500mph!!!  We are already over 5,000 miles away for our departure in LAX, and have a measly 1,200 miles left to fly!

Getting on our Quantas air flight was comparably different than the other air planes I boarded.  It was much, MUCH bigger!  The wings seemed to have doubled in size.  Instead of three seats in each row, two rows throughout the plane, we have a row with two seats, in the middle there is a row of four seats, and then another row of 2 seats!  With seven people per row, and the number of rows continuing far back, I would have to assume that there is somewhere around 500 people aboard this plane!!!  Take off was so awesome!  Driving on the runway felt just as though we were riding in an enormous bus!  Hitting the part of the runway where we take off, we picked up speed and the next thing I know we were lifting off!  It was a very smooth lift off, and very quickly the city lights below us disappeared.  They handed us a pillow, blanket, eye cover to help sleep, tooth brush and tooth paste, and welcomed us aboard.  Shortly after being on, they served us a dinner.  We could choose between fish or beef.  I chose the beef; it came with mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, side salad, and a dinner roll.  After we were all served and full, they took our trays and not even an hour later gave us a “snack pack” including teddy grams, granola bar, bottle of water, and some breath mints!  I felt like we were getting absolutely spoiled on this plane!!!

One thing that is really cool is that we all have our own TV.  I was able to watch Dispicable Me last night, or yesterday…. I guess I don’t know what to call it, we will just say a few hours ago! J  I fell asleep shortly after that, and upon waking up I found out that we only had three hours of travel left!  The moment is getting more real, I cannot believe I will actually be in another country!

So since it is daylight where we are, it is my first time flying when I can actually see out my window, and the view is awesome.  I am literally sitting at my seat (well not really my seat, my neighbor was nice enough to trade seats with me so I could check out the view!) looking down at the coulds.  Yes, that is correct, looking down at the clouds!  My first thought is that, wow, we are invisible right now.  Every single person on this plane, every human being, the whole airplane is invisible.  No one can see us below, we are above the clouds, above peoples imaginations.  It is such a crazy thought, but its so amazing to think it.  It’s like instead of looking up at clouds, and seeing clouds, I am looking down on them, as if they were mountains.  As if up here, there is a whole new world where the clouds are at the base, and the sky is endless!  Looking up into the sky, it gets to a deeper and deeper blue color.  I can see the moon from here, which is so neat!
My other thought as I am looking out this window is that there is a lot of space between me, and the surface of the ground.  I am already 40,000 ft in the air, but that doesn’t take into affect the depth of the ocean that we are flying over.    I can’t help but imagine what could possibly be in-between the ground surface and me.  Whales, dolphins, someone on a cruise ship?, birds, whales, etc.  The possibilities are endless!
I wish I could capture this moment, this view, and share it with everyone.  It is so amazing, and it completely calms my heart (which seems odd that I am in a HUGE metal aircraft, floating 40,000 feet in the air, and I am calm) to see this spectacular view.
After flying this few times, I have decided it is something that I thoroughly enjoy.  I definitely want to fit this into my lifestyle, as it is truly amazing!
It is crazy to think that the next time I am in an airplane, I will be jumping out to the ground.  I am sure it won’t be this high up, but it is just unreal to think that I will leave the safety of the plane, to land on the ground.  It is currently 6:43am New Zealand time, and we are expected to land at approximately 9am I believe.  I am hoping that as we descend I will be able to keep this window seat in order to see the ocean and island reveal themselves to us.  I am so thankful for being on this plane right now, and event though my adventure has already begun, the planned adventure is just around the corner!
Lots of Love! xoxo
