Today, January 26, 2011, I really tested myself. I did something that I didn’t think I would ever do (either because I wouldn’t get the chance, or if I did have the chance I would chicken out). I rappelled 80ft down into a rushing stream, at the mouth of a cave. We stood on a ledge, looking down watching the water shoot into the unknown. My heart was beating so fast, and I honestly wasn’t sure if I could actually do it. I had never rappelled before, and most of the group had been able to practice rappelling previously in Winona, where this, right now, was my practice. Dave said I had to do it, so I went with it… After getting all harnessed up, I was really shaking. My final check of my clips to make sure I was secure, and it was time for me to climb over the balcony. That was the easy part… relying on a rope, myself, and the person below me, I had to be ready to go. There was no turning back. I reminded myself ot not look down, and tried to just listen to the instructions that were given to me. Little by little I was rappelling myself down. At one point I kind of freaked out and let go, thankfully, Eric was below me and tightened up the rope so I didn’t come cruising down. After I regained composure I continued… The ledge ended fairly quickly and it was time to do a free-hang rappel. The view was amazing, looking into a cave opening that was the size of a house. It was absolutely beautiful! I was shaking so much when I finally landed, and Eric helped me to gain my balance. I had done it, conquered it! I felt so good to have accomplished something. It really is making me think that I can do ANYTHING that I want to. I cannot wait to continue to test myself, it is such a great experience. I can’t wait to see how far I can really go.
All these adventures are amazing, and I know I won’t be able to just go back home and not do anything. I miss you all and hope everyone is doing well!
Lots of Love from me to you J
